Use and Replacement of Diesel Generator Set Engine Oil
In order to make the diesel generator set work normally, we need to pay attention to the following points when changing engine oil for the diesel generator set:
1. Choose the right engine oil
Generally speaking, the manufacturer will provide a manual for each diesel generator set. And the manual will indicate the genenral type of engine oil used for the dg set. If it is not consistent with the oil required in the manual, we can buy oil of similar types or brands. Due to diesel generator sets are powered by diesel engines, diesel engine oil is required for the selection of engine oil. Do not use petrol engine oil.
2. Control the volume of engine oil
Check the oil level before each starting to ensure that the oil level is within the range specified by the ruler. When the oil level is too low, it is easy to burn the liner and pull the cylinder. At this time, add oil to the specified range in time. When the oil level is too high, it is easy for the engine oil to enter the cylinder, the combustion chamber will accumulate carbon, the piston rings will stick, and the exhaust will emit blue smoke. At this time, you should check whether there is water in the oil or whether it is fuel leakage, find out the cause, troubleshoot the fault and replace the oil.
3. Adjust the engine oil pressure
Each type of diesel engine has its own designated oil pressure. When the engine starts at rated speed or medium speed, the oil pressure should rise to the specified value within 1 minute, otherwise, the cause should be found. Usually, diesel generators have oil pressure adjusting screws, we can adjust them according to different specifications.
If the oil pressure is too high, the oil circuit is likely to leak and rupture; if the oil pressure is too low, the oil supply will be poor, resulting in poor lubrication and increased wear and tear of the diesel engine. Similarly, too low or too high oil temperature will also bring adverse consequences. Too high oil temperature will cause engine oil oxidation and deterioration, lower viscosity, unreliable lubrication and increased parts wear; if the oil temperature is too low, the viscosity will increase, the friction resistance will increase, and the oil cooling effect will be poor.
4. Check the engine oil quality
a) Check the mechanical impurities in the oil when heating the engine, take out the oil dipstick for inspection. If there are fine particles on the scale or the scale line is not visible, it means that there are too many impurities in the oil. The oil should be changed and the oil filter should be cleaned.
b) In order to check the viscosity of the oil, it is usually screwed onto the finger. If there is a feeling of stickiness and stretch, it indicates that the oil viscosity is appropriate, otherwise it indicates that the oil viscosity is insufficient. The accurate inspection method is to use a viscometer to measure.
5. Change the engine oil and clean the lubrication system regularly
6. Replace the oil filter element or the oil filter regularly
Regularly replace or clean the filter element and filter screen, and pay attention to clean the oil circuit. For filter elements and filter elements of different quality and use environment, the replacement cycle of these materials is different. In addition to referring to the specified service life of the product itself, during the maintenance and maintenance of the lubrication system, if the oil quality deteriorates or the working condition of the diesel engine deteriorates due to the oil, check whether the filter element or filter needs to be replaced.
Engine oil will deteriorate after a period of time and cannot be used again. Normally, the oil, oil filter element or oil filter must be changed within 50 hours of the new machine. After the running-in period, generally changes the oil every 500 hours (Cummins engines).
