Exhaust Rain Cap for Diesel Generator Set
Many soundproof dg sets are with vertical exhaust stack systems. The exhaust pipe end is usually installed vertically inside of the soundproof canopy. And the pipe end is also usually with a rain cap, which can be used to prevent dirt, dust, debris, snow, and rain from falling into exposed stack pipes. They are designed to open to full vertical position when pressure is inside the stack. They also close instantly when the exhaust pressure stops. Caps can help allow engines to breathe freely while reducing the threat of damage.
Before the delivery of a dg set, in order to prevent rain cap from being damaged during transportation, especially when it is delivered in LCL or in double stacking, sometimes the installed rain cap will be removed during packaging and placed in the unit. The salesman needs to inform the customer to install the rain cap in time after receiving the dg unit. If the client forgets to install it, rainwater will directly enter the body from the exhaust pipe if it is used outdoors without any shelter. If the time is long enough and the rainfall is sufficient, the inside of the body can even be filled with rainwater.
Let's take one of our customer's dg set unit as an example. Due to they forgot to install the rain cap back, the unit body was filled with rainwater after several times of heavy rains. A large amount of rainwater can be seen leaking out when the exhaust pipe is removed. When the oil valve at the bottom of the machine body is opened, a large amount of rainwater is also discharged. This may cause serious damage to the engine body. Hope everyone can learn a lesson from this case.
