Diesel Generator Control Panel
The control panel belongs to the control system of a diesel generator, which controls and protects the dg set unit. A control panel is normally a group of displays (controller, gauges & meters) indicating the measurement of various parameters like voltage, current, frequency, water temperature, oil pressure or fuel level, etc. It is usually fitted with buttons or switches that help to operate the generator. And control panels can also be combined with an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) to maintain the continuity of electrical power.
These meters and gauges and controller are set in a metallic body, usually powder-coated or painted corrosion proof, to protect from the effect of rain or snow. Normally there are two installation methods: 1) the panel may be set up on the body of the diesel genset itself, which is usually at the alternator side. They may be shelf-mounted or wall-mounted next to the generator, which is common inside an enclosure or internal applications like a data center; 2) or they are mounted on the diesel genset base, which has vibration proof pads that help isolate the control panel from shocks. They are completely separate from the alternator and are typically large enough to stand upon their own.
The control panel can monitor critical engine functions such as oil pressure, and coolant temperature, and shut down the generator engine to protect it from harm. The control panel can manipulate input from sensors to help give feedback to the genset unit to manage itself. The more advanced the control panel, the more things it can monitor. Some control panels have built in displays so that an operator can visually check on the diesel generator' functions. Some have remote communication capability (based on built-in WI-FI or Sim Card module) to alert personnel of a problem
Control panel units are usually designed and produced by the manufacturer of your dg sets. Most diesel generators have integrated control panels that are embedded with the product.
