One Way to Reduce Vibration of A Diesel Generator
A diesel engine is the power source of a diesel generator set. The diesel engine of a dg set is a thermal power device, referred to as a thermal engine. A thermal engine converts the thermal energy generated by fuel combustion into mechanical energy by means of the state change of the working fluid. The process of conversion will generate lots of vibration. In order to make a smooth & silent running, we may find a way to reduce the vibration.
Running diesel generators will transmit vibration to the support base frame. Positioning anti-vibration mounts underneath the engine & alternator is an excellent way to isolate vibration’s transmission and reduce noise transmission. There are many different options of anti-vibration mounts, such as rubber mounts, spring mounts, dampers, etc. The selection should consider the following:
a. Load per mount (lbs);
b. Type of installation/surrounding area (bolted, free-standing, outdoor, indoors, oil, seismic, etc.);
c. Vibration frequency generated (Hz)
The above mentioned information will give the guide to select the correct vibration isolator for your diesel engine generator. As well as isolating vibrations at the generator base, fitting flexible joints between the generator and any connecting systems will reduce noise transmission to surrounding structures.
