Engine Lubrication of Diesel Generator Sets
When a dg set unit is working, each moving part of the diesel engine acts on another part with a certain force, and high-speed relative movement occurs continuously. With relative movement, the surface of the part must produce friction and abrasion. When the diesel engine is working, it continuously consume fuel to generate heat. The internal temperature is very high. If the heat is not quickly and effectively dissipated, the diesel engine will not be able to run continuously and reliably, and the mechanical components will wear and deform in a short time. In order to reduce abrasion & frictional resistance, and at the same time to cool the engine and extend its service life, the engine must have a lubrication system.
The lubricating medium of an engine is engine oil. Engine oil has the functions of lubricating, cooling, cleaning, sealing and preventing rust. When the engine is working, the engine-driven oil pump continuously delivers sufficient quantity and appropriate temperature of clean oil to the friction surfaces of all transmission parts, and forms an oil film between the friction surfaces to achieve liquid friction, which reduce frictional resistance, power consumption & parts wear. It will greatly improve the reliability and durability of the engine. After the circulating engine oil is cooled by the engine cooling water, the oil will not deteriorate due to excessive temperature during operation, and the mechanical parts can be well lubricated and cooled.
After the diesel engine runs for a certain period of time (mileage), the engine oil will gradually incorporate certain metal impurities or colloidal substances produced by engine oil deterioration. The more such impurities, the more serious the damage to high-precision moving parts. The engine oil filter can effectively filter out the impurities mixed in the oil. Due to its limited capacity (the filtered impurities are isolated in the oil filter element), it must be replaced within a certain period to achieve effective filtering, otherwise, a large amount of impurities will still enter the engine lubricating oil circuit, which will accelerate the wear of mechanical parts, and in severe cases, it will cause cylinder scoring and bush burning.
