Diesel Generator Set Operation
Diesel generator set can run individually. Two or more dg set units can run in parallel. The process of getting multiple dg sets to run in parallel is called synchronizing. A single dg set unit or multiple units can also run in parallel with the mains supply network.
The operation of a single unit is restricted by some conditions. For example, if its power meets the requirements of heavy load conditions, it will reduce the economic efficiency during light-load operation. And its standby generator set unit must have the same power as the running unit. Multiple units in parallel operation or a single unit or multiple units run in parallel with the mains supply network can expand the power supply capacity and improve the reliability of power supply. In this situation, only one standby dg set unit is required, which reduces the capacity of the standby unit. To run in parallel, the following 4 conditions must be met:
a. Same terminal voltages;
b. Same frequencies;
c. Consistent phases;
d. Consistent phase sequences.
In addition to the above 4 conditions, there must also be a set of operation protection device that can automatically and reasonably allocate and adjust active and reactive power, so that the frequency regulation characteristics and voltage regulation characteristic curves between the units tend to be close, which may ensure the diesel generator set run stably and safely and may also ensure the stability and safety of power output.
